Transforming ideas into
stunning web realities
As a web developer with nearly a decade of experience, I am driven by an almost insatiable desire for crafting beautiful, cutting-edge digital solutions. I value initiative and strong work ethic, and combined with clear communication skills, those qualities have allowed me to thrive at agencies, large corporations, early stage startups, and my own entrepreneurial endeavors. A fast learner, I’m constantly taking online courses to expand my skillset, and I have a track record of almost seamlessly picking up any new skills required for a role.
This was a very fun role, where I got to build numerous pages seen by millions of people, and had the opportunity to learn and use some of the cool Javascript scroll animations that Apple is known for. From the beginning, I built everything with scalability and reusability in mind, and by the end of my tenure I’d amassed dozens of reusable templates and page components that now allow for non-developers to build and launch pages in less than an hour.
I helped improve and maintain Optimizely's public-facing site, which serves millions of users, by developing scalable components, applying modern front end best practices, and collaborating closely with cross-functional teams.
This was my first time using React in a professional role, so I was thrilled when I was able to jump into the codebase seamlessly and start building features and pushing code on my first day. We were working at a very fast pace, and it was extremely exciting to be part of the team that built the MVP of what is now a highly successful, rapidly-growing ad tech platform.
How do you make it so that when a user presses 'Submit', a new subdomain gets created, and then an SSL certificate is generated and placed on that subdomain, all in the split second before the user opens a new tab to view it? Those were the unique types of problems I was solving. Usually very challenging, but always highly exhilarating and endlessly educational.
As my first dev job, the responsibility of running maintenance and ongoing updates for several dozen websites was a challenge that I was determined to make the most of. I gained tons of valuable experience in communicating with clients to bring their ideas to life, and quickly grew my development skills, both at work and through a very dedicated home study regimen.
"I worked with James on a complex industry-specific CMS. He puts in the long hours when needed, and is able to work through complex problems in a timely fashion. James is a multi-talented team member that can not only knock out dev tasks quickly, but jump in and work in other capacities, such as marketing and/or client support. At the end of the day, he delivers functioning, quality code, on time and reliably."
